What To Expect
Instructions for Surgical Patients
These are general instructions for all surgical procedure patients. If any of these instructions seem to conflict with information given to you by your surgeon or anesthesiologist, please call for clarification.
- Please arrive at Medical Center of Plano one hour before your scheduled surgery time.
- Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your surgery. This includes water, coffee, hard candy, chewing gum and tobacco in any form. The only exception: you may be instructed to take routine medications with a sip of water by the preadmission nurse, your surgeon or by your anesthesiologist.
- A responsible adult driver must accompany you upon your discharge from the hospital. If this is a problem, please call and allow us to assist with these arrangements.
- Shower or bathe the morning of your surgery.
- Do not bring any valuable items with you to the hospital, except one method of payment for deductibles or co-pays.
- Bring a case for eyeglasses. Do not plan to wear contact lenses. Contact lenses cannot be worn during anesthesia.
- Do not wear make-up to the hospital. Make-up can injure your eyes during anesthesia and must be removed before surgery.
- Wear loose comfortable clothing.
- Bring any equipment your physician has provided for you (collars, braces, etc.). You may also bring crutches or slings. They will be examined for function and safety by hospital staff.
- Visiting hours are 10:00am to 8:00pm. Young children and visitors in excess of two are discouraged and may be restricted from your room.
Contact your surgeon, if you develop any sign of illness before surgery.
Call (972) 519-1509 if you have any questions or concerns.
